At Son of a Tailor, our commitment to made-to-order production reflects our determination to address some of the deeper issues that have long troubled the fashion industry.
With our made-to-order model, we are actively rejecting the wasteful practices of overproduction and excess inventory that have led to staggering levels of textile waste and the depletion of natural resources. In doing so, we’re crafting something truly unique: garments designed specifically for you, produced only when you order them.
Since 2014, we’ve been leading the way with a unique demand-driven model, but in 2023, we took things further by opening SON Supply—our very own production house in Santo Tirso, Portugal. Owning our production allows us to shape every process to meet our exact standards, ensuring the highest quality while minimizing environmental impact. It also gives us the freedom to continuously improve, fine-tuning every detail to make better products.
While SON Supply produces the majority of our products, we also collaborate closely with a select group of trusted production partners. These partnerships are built on shared values, mutual respect, and a relentless dedication to craftsmanship. Together, we ensure every garment reflects the values of precision, care, and attention to detail.
By focusing on quality, durability and comfort, we aim to extend the life of every item in your wardrobe. From carefully chosen fabrics to construction methods that withstand regular wear and tear, every element is designed to help you enjoy each piece season after season. In turn, this lowers both the environmental impact and the cost per wear, ensuring you get the maximum value out of every garment.
Moreover, we take steps to make our clothes easier to recycle once they do reach the end of their lifecycle. By prioritizing mono fibers—like 100% cotton or wool—whenever possible, we simplify the recycling process.
Blended fabrics can be more complicated and resource-intensive to break down, so using a single fiber type helps reduce the amount of energy needed to repurpose materials. This approach not only conserves valuable resources but also represents our commitment to building a more sustainable future in fashion—one where clothing lifecycles are more circular and waste is kept to a minimum.
Our production partners in Portugal are true experts in their craft, bringing decades of experience in fine garment-making . Renowned for their skill and attention to detail, they are trusted experts who bring time-honored techniques and modern innovations together to create clothing of exceptional quality. In collaboration with our partners, we ensure that every garment not only fits perfectly but also reflects the exceptional quality we stand for.
